Reprint Of Army TM 9-1005-319-23&P (Chg 3)

This soft cover book by Desert Publications (El Dorado, Arkansas) is a reprint of Army TM (Technical Manual) 9-1005-319-23&P (Change 3) [this is also Air Force Tech Order 11W3-5-5-42].

The pages are good sized (I think the same as the original TM) but I have a couple of issues which make me less than fully satisfied with this printing :

1.) The manual is updated through Change 3 (dated 3 February 1994). There have been two additional changes (that I am aware of) since Change 3; Change 4 dated 5 May 1995 and Change 5 dated 9 April 1997. (Due to the fact that the Army’s method of updating the TM is to replace entire pages with new ones there is not a quick way to determine if the updates contain significant changes or not. The only way would be to compare each ‘old page’ with each ‘new page’ and thus determine what the actual changes are.)

2.) Page 1.0 is missing (External View of 5.56mm Rifle, M16A2). This is actually a minor issue given that there are other views further back in the book but it gives me concern wondering if there are other (and as-of-yet undiscovered) omissions.

(This effort was to determine if an up-to-date version of the book might be coming out.)

When I tried to contact Desert Publications (shown as the publisher of the book) the phone number listed was no good. As the rear cover of the book shows Desert Publications to be a division of the Delta Group I looked them up and found they have the same address (in El Dorado, Arkansas) as Desert Publications so I knew they were the right people. I then phoned Delta Press (an alternate name) (tel 870-862-3811) and spoke with a lady there, asking if they were going to release an updated edition of the book (since what is currently being offered is two Changes out-of-date) and she said “Not until we’re out of the current production run.”

It is a manual. If you can read them you can use this guide. Would like to see the additions since first publication in here too.

As stated is a republication of military manual. Not sure if all supplements and change notices incorporated.
